SURABAYAPAGI.com - The film, which tells the history of the journey of rock band Queen titled Bohemian Rhapsody and US segregation-era comedy Green Book, took home the Golden Globe trophy on Monday (7/1). Tears and feelings of wonder also colored the podium which stated Glenn Close was cast in the film The Wife.
Glenn defeated Lady Gaga as the best drama actress. "My God. I just don’t believe it. We have to say, I can do that, and I have to be allowed to do that," said the 71-year-old woman, with a standing ovation from the stars.
The Netflix streaming service has overturned Hollywood by spending billions during the production process. Netflix also won five Golden Globes in the category of films and television series, including the best foreign language film Rome. The Mexican film, which also won the category for best director, is seen as the Oscar pioneer in February.
Rami Malek who won the best drama actor for his role as the late Queen Freddie Mercury vocalist in the film 20th Century Fox Bohemian Rhapsody dedicated his award to the British singer who died of AIDS in 1991. "I love you, men are extraordinary. This is for you, and because you are great," Malek was quoted by Reuters.
Vice, a political comedy film that has sharply criticized the rise of power of former US Vice-President Dick Cheney, was included in six prominent nominations. But only won one victory, namely Christian Bale for his appearance as Cheney in the movie.
Meanwhile, films produced by Focus Features Green Book successfully won three categories at once, namely the best comedy, supporting actor (Mahershala Ali) and the scenario. The director and film writer, Peter Farrelly, said the story of the black pianist in the film who started a friendship with an Italian-American driver gave him hope.
"This goes beyond anything we have ever imagined when we started the filming process. I want to share that hope with you because we are still alive in a divided time," Farrelly said.
Lady Gaga, who was instrumental in the film made by Warner Bros. entitled A Star is Born, which was her first leading role, won the best song titled Shallow. British actress Olivia Coleman also emerged as the winner for the historical film The Favorite.
In the television series category, won by Cold War spy thriller The Americans, a limited series of The Assassination of Gianni Versace, and the latest Netflix comedy The Kominsky Method. Meanwhile, Carol Burnett and Jeff Bridges were both awarded the Golden Globe achievement for life. rk
